Beaumont Magnet Academy (1211 Beaumont Avenue) will host a session of the Southeastern Museums Conference on October 22, 2:00-3:30 p.m., at the school. At least 35 museum educators from across the southeast will be in attendance to learn about the school’s museum program.

Co-Principal Dr. Daphne Odom, Magnet Facilitator Casey Robison, Second-grade Honors Teacher Sarah Johnson, Numeracy Coach Sarah Mercer, as well as Beaumont Parent Emily Medley and Fifth-grade Student Sophia Medley will lead discussion of the start-up and implementation of the school’s museum program and partnerships.

Beaumont’s museum partners include Ramsey House, American Museum of Science and Energy, Ijams Nature Center, McClung Museum of Natural History and Culture, Knoxville Zoo, East Tennessee Historical Society and Knoxville Museum of Art. Representatives from most or all of these organizations also will present information at the conference about their partnership with Beaumont Magnet Academy.

Beaumont Magnet Academy is Knoxville’s first and only museum school. Along with museum partners, Beaumont creates a unique and innovative learning experience for students in the school’s Honors Academy and Fine Arts Program. Unique programming includes hands-on experiences and learning visits that supplement curriculum in the classroom.
