Lonsdale Elementary School Liaison Receives Spirit of Inspiration Award

Griselda Sandoval, family and community liaison at Lonsdale Elementary School, has been selected to receive the Centro Hispano de East Tennessee 2014 “Spirit of Inspiration” Award. The award recognizes a Latino leader in East Tennessee who “inspires and influences others.” This award will be presented at The LATINO Awards, Sept. 20, 5:30 p.m., at the Knoxville Convention Center.

As a family and community liaison, Sandoval serves as an interpreter and facilitator for Lonsdale Elementary School’s Latino students and families to ensure a more successful transition into the school community. For four years, Sandoval has served the school’s Latino students, who comprise close to 50 percent of the student population. She also is a long-time volunteer at Vine Health Center, where she assists the staff when serving Latino patients and families.
