Gov. Haslam Discusses Tennessee Promise at Gibbs High School

Tennessee Governor Bill Haslam visited Gibbs High School on August 19 to discuss Tennessee Promise with students and faculty. The Tennessee Promise initiative was signed into law in May 2014 and provides all Tennessee high school graduates with the opportunity to attend a community college or Tennessee college of applied technology free of tuition and fees, plus provides them a mentor to help ensure their success. Gibbs High School students, elected officials, Superintendent of the Knox County Schools Dr. Jim McIntyre, Gibbs High School Principal Jason Webster and others participated in the event.

Seniors in the Knox County Schools can apply now for the Tennessee Promise scholarship. Deadline to apply is Nov. 1, 2014. Visit http://www.driveto55.org/initiatives/tennessee-promise/ for more information.
