West High Announces... We Are Opening as an Authorized IB MYP World School for the 2017-18 School Year!
We are excited to announce that West High School, in partnership with Bearden Middle School, has been authorized as an International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme (IB MYP) World School!  Through a challenging framework, MYP encourages students to make practical connections between their studies and the real world.   All students will begin their World Language study in 6th grade at Bearden Middle and will select a World Language focus at the end of the 6th grade year.  They will then continue with that language through 10th grade at West High. In addition, all 10th graders will complete a Personal Project that connects strongly to their own interests. During the 11th and 12th grades students may continue with World Language if they so choose. Upon completion of the MYP at the end of their 10th grade year students will elect to continue with the International Baccalaureate full Diploma Programme (IB DP), an 11th and 12th grade program, or take select IB courses for certificates.

The MYP aims to develop active learners that embody the IB Learner profile*.  The MYP focuses on developing internationally minded young people who can empathize with others and pursue lives of purpose and meaning after high school graduation. The MYP empowers students to inquire into a wide range of issues and ideas of significance locally, nationally and globally. What results is young people who are creative, critical and reflective thinkers who are college and/or career ready.

West High School is very excited to offer this comprehensive programme that encourages students to manage their own learning, make connections between what they learn in the classroom and the larger world awaiting them after graduation.  The IB Middle Years and Diploma Programmes help students to develop an understanding of global issues as well as their responsibilities as global citizens.
