Driver's Permit Information

In light of school closures due to the outbreak of COVID-19, the Tennessee Department of Safety has temporarily modified their procedures for students to verify adequate academic progress and attendance in school. These procedures are necessary for students hoping to obtain a first-time driver’s license or seeking reinstatement after revocation due to a lack of adequate academic progress or attendance.

In lieu of verifying adequate academic progress and attendance, Department of Safety will temporarily require parents/guardians to certify that their student’s school is closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and therefore, their student is unable to obtain the required documentation necessary to verify adequate academic progress and attendance.  That can be done using this form: https://www.tn.gov/content/dam/tn/safety/documents/dl-forms/SF1623_AcademicProgressTruancyAffidavit.pdf?mc_cid=9617fc5113&mc_eid=d1f98230d7
