Nia's Teacher Promise Mock Bill - Jack and Jill America's Capitol Event
As part of the inaugural Jack and Jill of America, Inc., Southeastern Region's at the Capitol event in 2021, Nia Vaughn submitted a mock bill for the legislative simulation activity. In December 2021, Nia also presented her mock bill proposal during the Knoxville chapter visit at the Tennessee Capitol to Tennessee State Rep. Sam McKenzie. Rep. McKenzie hosted the Knoxville Chapter Capitol tour with lunch. The visit also featured visits from State Representatives Harold Love and Vincent Dixie.
The bill that Nia presented during the children's mock session was presented to the K-12 subcommittee as an amendment to HB2604 by Rep. McKenzie on March 16 at 4:30PM CST. During the session, Nia testified. House Bill 2604, or the Basic Education Program (BEP) – Amends TCA Title 49, Chapter 3, Part 3. As introduced this amendment establishes that the BEP funds include an additional $100 to each K-12 teacher for instructional supplies for the 2022-2023 year.
