Briana Hinton Appointed Director of Employee Relations

 
Briana Hinton has been appointed Director of Employee Relations for Knox County Schools.
 
Ms. Hinton has experience in risk mitigation and employment discrimination. Her experience includes various organizations including the Women's Legal Centre in South Africa, the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission in Washington, D.C., Sallie Mae Bank in Delaware, and the Superior Court of New Jersey/Atlantic County Civil Court in New Jersey. She also served as RFP Coordinator for TransLoc, Inc. in Raleigh. She joined Knox County Schools in May 2021 as Title IX Coordinator/Compliance Officer.
 
Ms. Hinton holds a bachelor's degree in History from North Carolina Central University, a paralegal certification from Duke University Continuing Studies, and a Doctor of Law degree from Howard University School of Law.

Alex Moseman Appointed Executive Director of Talent Acquisition

 
Alex Moseman has been appointed Executive Director of Talent Acquisition for Knox County Schools effective July 2022. Mr. Moseman worked for two years as reading teacher at John Marshall Community High School in Indianapolis, before joining Wabash College in 2013 as assistant director of admissions.
 
In 2015, he became manager of fellowship recruitment for the non-profit Building Excellent Schools, where he managed campus recruitment for Master of Business Administration and Master of Arts candidates at Harvard University, Yale University, Columbia University, Rice University and the University of Chicago. He returned to Indianapolis Public Schools in 2017 as the director of talent acquisition.
 
Mr. Moseman received a bachelor's degree in Political Science from Wabash College and a master's degree in Teaching from Marian University, both in Indiana.

Charlene Lewis Appointed Principal of Career Magnet Academy

 
Dr. Charlene Lewis has been appointed Principal of Career Magnet Academy effective July 2022.
 
Dr. Lewis worked for six years as a teacher in Hamilton County before joining Knox County Schools in 2011 as a TAP Master teacher. She began her career in administration in 2014 as an assistant principal at South-Doyle High School, and later served as an assistant principal at Northwest Middle School. She is currently an assistant principal at Farragut High School.
 
Dr. Lewis received a bachelor's degree in Mass Communications from Middle Tennessee State University, a master's degree in Secondary Education and a master's degree in School Leadership, both from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, as well as doctorate degree in Educational Leadership and Policy Students from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville.

Bryan Brown Appointed Athletic Director Specialist

 
Bryan Brown has been appointed Athletic Director Specialist for Knox County Schools effective July 2022.
 
Mr. Brown worked for 13 years as a teacher and coach in Minnesota, Illinois and North Carolina before joining Knox County Schools in 2008. He has been a teacher and coach at Hardin Valley Academy since its founding year, including three years as dean of the school's Business, Law and Public Affairs Academy. He currently serves as a teacher, coach and athletic director for Hardin Valley Academy.
 
Mr. Brown received a bachelor's degree in History and Political Science from Jamestown College and a master's degree in Athletic Administration from Liberty University.

Rebecca Bitner Appointed Principal of Ridgedale School

 
Rebecca Bitner has been appointed Principal of Ridgedale School effective July 2022.
 
Ms. Bitner joined Knox County Schools in 2002 through a yearlong internship with the University of Tennessee at South Doyle Middle School. She taught K-12 special education in Blount County Schools before returning to Knox County in 2012 as a TAP mentor teacher at South-Doyle Middle School. In 2013, she began serving middle and high schools as a special education facilitator. She is currently an assistant principal at South Doyle Middle School, where she has been serving since 2020.
 
Ms. Bitner received a bachelor's degree in Language Arts and a master's degree in Curriculum and Instruction, both from the University of Tennessee, as well as an educational specialist degree in Administration and Supervision from Lincoln Memorial University. She completed coursework through Florida Institute of Technology to become a board-certified behavior analyst.

Matthew Mosley Appointed Director of CTE

 
Matthew Mosley has been appointed Director of CTE for Knox County Schools effective July 2022. Mr. Mosley joined Knox County Schools in 2012 as a teacher at Fulton High School. He began his career as a web developer.
 
At Fulton High, he taught web design and later served as a magnet facilitator. In 2017, he joined Karns High School's Byington Solway CTE Center as a College and Career Coach and an Administrator Assistant. He became Dean of Students at Career Magnet Academy in 2018 and was later named assistant principal at South-Doyle High School. He is currently the principal of Career Magnet Academy.
 
Mr. Mosley received a bachelor's degree in Mass Communications from Middle Tennessee State University, as well as a master's degree in Educational Leadership and an educational specialist degree in Educational Leadership, both from Carson-Newman University.

Erin Phillips Appointed Executive Director of Learning and Literacy

 
Erin Phillips has been appointed Executive Director of Learning and Literacy for Knox County Schools. Dr. Phillips worked for seven years as an academic coach and teacher at Hobgood Elementary School in Murfreesboro, before joining the Tennessee Department of Education in 2016 as a reading coach consultant for the South Central region.
 
She began her career in school administration in 2018 when she was named assistant principal of Cason Lane Academy in Murfreesboro. In 2019, she became principal of East Coffee Elementary School in Manchester. She is currently the director of curriculum and instruction for Bedford County Schools.
 
Dr. Phillips received a bachelor's degree in Interdisciplinary Studies K-6, a master's Reading Specialist degree, and an educational specialist degree in Administration and Supervision, all from Middle Tennessee State University, as well as a doctorate degree in Educational Leadership from the University of the Cumberlands.

Melissa Glover Appointed Principal of Gresham Middle School

 
Melissa Glover has been appointed Principal of Gresham Middle School effective July 2022.
 
Ms. Glover joined Knox County Schools in 2003 as an intern at Farragut High School, where she continued to teach for nearly a decade. She began her career in administration in 2013 as an assistant principal at Powell High School, and later served as an assistant principal at Austin-East Magnet High School. She is currently an assistant principal at Hardin Valley Middle School.
 
Ms. Glover received a bachelor's degree in History, a master's degree in Education, both from The University of Tennessee, as well as an education specialist degree in Instructional leadership from Tennessee Tech University.

Kristi Phillips Appointed Special Education Supervisor

 
Kristi Phillips has been appointed Special Education Supervisor for Knox County Schools.
 
Ms. Phillips joined Knox County Schools in 2003 as a teacher at Northwest Middle School. She also served as a TAP mentor teacher at Northwest Middle. She began her career in administration in 2010 when she was appointed assistant principal at Bearden Middle School. She has been an assistant principal at L&N STEM Academy and an assistant principal at Ridgedale. In 2019, she was named principal of Ridgedale.
 
Ms. Phillips received a bachelor's degree in Elementary Education and a master's degree in Educational Leadership, both from Carson-Newman University.

Donna Parker Appointed Secondary Staffing Supervisor

 
Donna Parker has been appointed Secondary Staffing Supervisor effective July 2022.
 
Ms. Parker joined Knox County Schools in 1993 through a yearlong internship with the University of Tennessee at Fountain City Elementary School. She taught at Carter Middle and Gresham Middle schools before joining the administrative team at Whittle Springs Middle in 2004 as an assistant principal. She was named principal of Gresham Middle School in 2006, a position that she currently holds.
 
Ms. Parker received a bachelor's degree in Education and a master's degree in Curriculum and Instruction, both from the University of Tennessee, as well as an education specialist degree in Administration and Supervision from Lincoln Memorial University.

Jennifer Garrett Appointed Principal of K-12 Virtual Schools

 
Jennifer Garrett has been appointed Principal of K-12 Virtual Schools effective July 2022.
 
Ms. Garrett joined Knox County Schools in 1998 as a teacher at Karns Elementary School. She has also worked as a TPaCK technology coach at Sterchi Elementary. She was selected to be part of the Leadership Academy in 2016 and placed at Dogwood Elementary School as an assistant principal. She worked as campus manager at Paul Kelley Volunteer Academy and as an assistant principal at L&N STEM Academy. In 2019, she was named the principal of Paul Kelley Volunteer Academy.
 
She is currently principal of the district's Elementary Virtual School. Ms. Garrett received a bachelor's degree in Elementary Education from Western Michigan University and a master's degree in Educational Leadership from the University of Tennessee.

Brad Carr Appointed Principal of South-Doyle High School

 
Dr. Brad Carr has been appointed Principal of South-Doyle High School effective July 2022. Dr. Carr joined Knox County Schools in 2008 as a teacher at Fulton High School.
 
He went on to work as a TAP mentor teacher at Austin-East Magnet High School and a TAP master teacher at South-Doyle High School. He began his career in administration in 2013 as an assistant principal at Powell High School. He has also been an assistant principal at high schools in West Virginia and Virginia. In 2018, he became the principal of Graham High School in Bluefield, Va., and in 2021, he was named director of human resources for Tazwell County Public Schools.
 
Dr. Carr received a bachelor's degree in Psychology from King College, a master's degree in Modified and Comprehensive Special Education from the University of Tennessee, an education specialist degree in Administration and Supervision from Lincoln Memorial University and a doctorate in Educational Leadership, from University of the Cumberlands.

Tim Berry Appointed Federal Programs Supervisor

 
Tim Berry has been appointed Federal Programs Supervisor effective July 2022.
 
Mr. Berry began teaching in 1990 at Greenback Public School in Loudon County. He also taught at Loudon High School and Fort Loudon Middle School, where he began his career in administration. In 1999, he began working as an instructional supervisor for Loudon County Schools, and in 2002, was named assistant superintendent. He became principal of North Middle School in 2006. He joined Knox County Schools in 2011 as principal of South-Doyle High School.
 
Mr. Berry received a bachelor's degree in Biological Science Education from the University of Tennessee, a master's degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Lincoln Memorial University and an education specialist degree in Administration and Supervision from Tennessee Tech University.

Alicia Jones Appointed Director of Student Success

 
Alicia Jones has been appointed Director of Student Success effective July 2022.
 
Ms. Jones began teaching in 2010 as a Georgia Network for Educational and Therapeutic Support teacher. She previously worked as a juvenile probation/parole specialist. In 2015, she began working as a public safety teacher at Hiram High School in Georgia, and in 2016, she was named the Special Education Coordinator and District Administrator for Georgia Network for Educational and Therapeutic Support.
 
Ms. Jones received a bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice and a master's degree in Criminal Justice, both from Troy University, as well as an education specialist degree in Leadership from Kennesaw State University.

Karen Loy Appointed Director of Special Education

 
Dr. Karen Loy has been appointed Director of Special Education effective July 2022.
 
Dr. Loy joined Knox County Schools as a school psychologist in 1997. She previously worked as the a director for Bare Facts Academy. In 1998, she became a program consultant for Richard Yoakely School, and in 2000, she was named principal of Ridgedale School and the Karns Annex Alternative Programs. She also oversaw the Middle School Evening Alternative Program. In 2007, she became principal of Northwest Middle School, and in 2017, she was appointed special education supervisor.
 
Dr. Loy received a bachelor's degree in Secondary Education from Tennessee Tech University, as well as an education specialist degree in Psychology and a doctorate degree in Education Leadership, both from the University of Tennessee.

Jennifer Hemmelgarn Appointed Interim Assistant Superintendent of Business and Talent

 
Jennifer Hemmelgarn has been appointed Interim Assistant Superintendent of Business and Talent effective July 2022.
 
Ms. Hemmelgarn joined Knox County Schools in 2016 as supervisor of employee relations. She previously worked eight years as an associate attorney for Leibowitz Law Firm. In 2019, she became director of employee relations, a position that she currently holds.
 
Ms. Hemmelgarn received a bachelor's degree in Business Administration and Law from Western Carolina University and a Doctor of Jurisprudence from the University of Tennessee College of Law.

Susan Hutton Appointed Principal of Brickey-McCloud Elementary School

 
Dr. Susan Hutton has been appointed Principal of Brickey-McCloud Elementary School effective July 2022.
 
Dr. Hutton worked for nine years as an elementary teacher and middle school AVID tutor in Newport News, Va. She began her career in administration in 2006 as an assistant principal at a math, science and technology magnet school in Yorktown, Va. She has also worked as an assistant principal and principal in Gastonia, N.C. In 2012, she was named principal of Yorktown Middle School, and in 2019, appointed principal of Dare Elementary School in Yorktown, where she currently serves.
 
Dr. Hutton holds a bachelor's degree in University Studies from University of New Mexico, a master's degree in the Art of Teaching from Christopher Newport University, and a doctorate degree in Educational Policy, Planning and Leadership from the College of William and Mary.

Laicee Hatfield Appointed Principal of Karns High School

 
Laicee Hatfield has been appointed Principal of Karns High School effective July 2022.
 
Ms. Hatfield joined Knox County Schools in 2005 as a teacher upon graduating from the University of Tennessee. She was selected to be part of the Leadership Academy in 2012 and placed at Farragut High School as an assistant principal. In 2013, she was named assistant principal of Karns High School. In 2019, she was named assistant principal of Farragut High, and in 2021, she was appointed principal of KCS Secondary Virtual Schools, where she currently serves.
 
Ms. Hatfield holds an associate degree in General Studies from Walters State Community College, a bachelor's degree in Biochemistry and Cellular and Molecular Biology from the University of Tennessee, a master's degree in Secondary Science from the University of Tennessee, and an education specialist degree in Administration and Supervision from Lincoln Memorial University.

Ashley Booher has been appointed Principal of Cedar Bluff Elementary School effective July 2022.
 
Ms. Booher joined Knox County Schools in 2007 as teacher at Ritta Elementary School. She also served as a TAP mentor and master teacher at Ritta Elementary. She began her career in administration in 2015 as an assistant principal at Gibbs Elementary School. She has also been an assistant principal at Corryton Elementary and New Hopewell Elementary. She is currently an assistant principal at Cedar Bluff Elementary.
 
Ms. Booher holds a bachelor's degree in Multidisciplinary Studies with a concentration in Human Learning Grades K-8 and a master's degree in Instructional Leadership, both from Tennessee Technological University.

Angie Messer Appointed Music and Performing Arts Specialist

 
Angie Messer has been appointed a Music and Performing Arts Specialist for Knox County Schools effective July 2022.
 
Ms. Messer joined Knox County Schools in 1997 as an interim director of bands at Whittle Springs Middle School. She became the assistant director of bands at Bearden High school later that year. She has also worked as the director of bands at Carter High School and Carter Middle School. In 2011, she became the associate director of bands and a TAP mentor teacher at Carter High and later an instrumental music professional development specialist for the district.
 
She was selected to be part of the Leadership Academy in 2013 and placed at West High School. In 2015, she was named an assistant principal at Carter High School, and in 2016, she was appointed principal of Carter High, where she currently serves. Ms. Messer holds a bachelor's degree in Instructional Music Education and a master's degree in Educational Leadership, both from the University of Tennessee.

Megan Blevins has been appointed Principal of Inskip Elementary School effective July 2022.
 
Ms. Blevins joined Knox County Schools in 2007 as an English as a Second Language teacher. She has also taught at Carter Elementary, Ritta Elementary and served as a district lead teacher. She began her career in administration in 2017 as an administrative assistant at Mooreland Heights Elementary. Later, she was selected to be part of the Leadership Academy and placed at Brickey-McCloud Elementary School as an assistant principal. She is currently the assistant principal at Inskip Elementary.
 
Ms. Blevins holds a bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education and a master's degree in Early Childhood Education both from the University of Arkansas, and an Education Specialist degree in Educational Leadership from the University of Tennessee.

James Slay has been appointed Principal of Gap Creek Elementary School effective July 2022.
 
Mr. Slay joined Knox County Schools in 2011 as a teacher at Inskip Elementary School. He was selected to be part of the Leadership Academy in 2016 and placed at Shannondale Elementary School as an assistant principal. In 2017, he was named assistant principal of Green Magnet Academy, where he currently serves.

Taiesha Young has been appointed Principal of Pond Gap Elementary School effective July 2022.
 
Ms. Young joined Knox County Schools in 2017 as a teacher at Holston Middle School. She previously worked as a teacher in Mississippi. She began her career in administration in 2019 serving as an assistant administrator at Gibbs Elementary School and in 2020 was appointed assistant principal at Pond Gap Elementary, where she currently serves.
 
Ms. Young holds a bachelor's degree in Education from Alcorn State, a master's degree in Education from the University of West Alabama, and an Educational Specialist degree in Educational Administration from Arkansas State University.

Tiffany Watkins has been appointed Principal of Spring Hill Elementary School effective July 2022. Ms. Watkins joined Knox County Schools in 1995 as a teacher at Ball Camp Elementary School.
 
Ms. Watkins also taught at Hardin Valley Elementary School and served as a mentor teacher. She was selected to be part of the Leadership Academy in 2012 and placed at A.L. Lotts Elementary School as an assistant principal. She has also served as an assistant principal at Adrian Burnett Elementary School and principal at Fair Garden Community Center. She is currently principal of Gap Creek Elementary School.
 
Ms. Watkins holds a bachelor's degree in Education and a master's degree in Curriculum and Instruction, both from the University of Tennessee.

Trina Bruns has been appointed Principal of Amherst Elementary School effective July 2022.
 
Ms. Bruns joined Knox County Schools in 2016 as assistant principal at Pond Gap Elementary School. Before joining Knox County Schools, Ms. Bruns served as a special education teacher, STEM interventionist and an elementary school assistant principal in Colorado Springs, Co. She is currently the principal of Pond Gap Elementary.
 
Ms. Bruns holds a bachelor's degree in Education from Bowling Green State University and a master's degree in Educational Administration from Grand Canyon University.

Casey Cutter Appointed Principal of Blue Grass Elementary School

 
Dr. Casey Cutter has been appointed Principal of Blue Grass Elementary School effective July 2022. Dr. Cutter joined Knox County Schools in 2010 as a teacher from Colorado.
 
He has taught at Adrian Burnett and Ball Camp elementary schools and was selected to be part of the Leadership Academy in 2012 when he was placed at Copper Ridge Elementary School as an assistant principal. He has been an assistant principal at Norwood Elementary, principal of Mount Olive Elementary, and is currently principal of Sam Houston Elementary in Maryville.
 
Dr. Cutter holds a bachelor's degree in Business Administration from the University of Colorado, a master's degree in Elementary Education from Regis University, and a doctorate degree in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies from the University of Tennessee.

Lynn Jacomen Appointed Principal of Hardin Valley Elementary School

 
Lynn Jacomen has been appointed Principal of Hardin Valley Elementary School effective July 2022. Ms. Jacomen joined Knox County Schools in 2016 after more than 20 years of working in education in Virginia. She spent nine years as a classroom teacher before joining the Virginia Department of Education.
 
She has also worked as an RTI Coordinator and Instructional Specialist, and began her career in administration in 2013 serving as an assistant principal and principal. Ms. Jacomen was appointed assistant principal at Ritta Elementary School in 2016 and principal oflnskip Elementary in 2017, where she currently serves.
 
Ms. Jacomen holds a bachelor's degree in Elementary Education and a master's degree in Curriculum and Instruction, both from the University of Tennessee, as well as an Educational Specialist degree in Educational Administration and Supervision from Radford University.

Jamie Cantrill Appointed Elementary Staffing Supervisor for Knox County Schools

 
Jamie Cantrill has been appointed Elementary Staffing Supervisor effective July 2022. Mr. Cantrill joined Knox County Schools in 2010 as an assistant principal and athletic director at Karns High School.
 
Previously, he worked for 12 years as an elementary and middle school teacher in Kentucky. In 2012, he was appointed assistant principal and athletic director of Powell High School. Mr. Cantrill was named the assistant principal of Blue Grass Elementary in 2013 and has served as principal of Blue Grass for the last seven years.
 
Mr. Cantrill holds a bachelor's degree in Education from Berea College and a master's degree in lr)structional Leadership from Eastern Kentucky University.

Sunny Scheafnocker Appointed Principal of New Northwest County Elementary School

 
Dr. Sunny Scheafnocker has been appointed Principal of the new elementary school in the northwest sector of Knox County effective July 2022.
 
Dr. Scheafnocker joined Knox County Schools in 2002 as a teacher at Fountain City Elementary. Dr. Scheafnocker was appointed assistant principal of Hardin Valley Elementary in 2008 and assistant principal of Amherst Elementary in 2013. She was named principal of Hardin Valley Elementary in 2015, where she currently serves.
 
Dr. Scheafnocker holds a bachelor's degree in Psychology and a master's degree in Education, both from the University of Tennessee, as well as an Educational Specialist degree in Educational Administration and Supervision and a doctorate degree in Executive Leadership, both from Lincoln Memorial University.

Kristen Jackson has been appointed Principal of West Hills Elementary School effective July 2022.
 
Ms. Jackson began her career in Knox County Schools in 2008 as a substitute teacher. She worked as a classroom teacher at Christenberry Elementary School for five years before being named assistant principal of West Hills Elementary in 2017, where she currently serves.
 
Ms. Jackson holds a bachelor's degree in Human Services/Counseling from Carson-Newman College, a master's degree in Curriculum and Instruction, and an Educational Specialist degree in Instructional Leadership, both from Lincoln Memorial University.

Josh Van Pelt Appointed Principal of Mooreland Heights Elementary School

 
Dr. Josh Van Pelt has been appointed Principal of Mooreland Heights Elementary School effective July 2022. Dr. Van Pelt joined Knox County Schools in 2009 as a teacher at Norwood Elementary School.
 
Dr. Van Pelt previously worked at the Health Department in Mount Vernon, Ohio, and as a teacher's assistant at an alternative learning center in Ohio. At Norwood Elementary, he served as a health and P.E. teacher, as well as a Lead teacher. In 2020, he was named assistant principal at Mooreland Heights, and in November 2021 he was appointed interim principal, a position he currently serves.
 
Dr. Van Pelt holds a bachelor's degree in Sports Management and a master's degree in Education, both from Mount Vernon Nazarene University; an Educational Specialist degree in Administration and Supervision from Lincoln Memorial University; and a doctorate degree in Educational Leadership from Carson Newman University.

Suzanne Parham Appointed Principal of Farragut Intermediate School

 
Suzanne Parham has been appointed Principal of Farragut Intermediate School effective July 2022. Ms. Parham joined Knox County Schools in 2010 as a reading intervention teacher at Inskip Elementary. Previously, she was a teacher and RTI coordinator at Lenoir City Schools.
 
Ms. Parham has also served as an instructional literacy coach at Beaumont Magnet Academy and an instructional coach at West Hills Elementary. She was selected to be part of the Leadership Academy in 2015 and placed at Northshore Elementary School as an assistant principal. She was appointed assistant principal of Lonsdale Elementary in 2016 and assistant principal of Karns Elementary in 2017, where she currently serves.
 
Ms. Parham holds a bachelor's degree in Communications from Florida State University, a master's degree in Elementary Education from the University of Tennessee, an Educational Specialist degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Lincoln Memorial University, and an Educational Specialist degree in Educational Leadership and Administration from the University of Tennessee.

Kimberly Harris Appointed Principal of Bonny Kate Elementary School

 
Kimberly Harris has been appointed Principal of Bonny Kate Elementary School effective July 2022.
 
Ms. Harris joined Knox County Schools in 2012 and worked as a teacher at A.L. Lotts and Hardin Valley Elementary. Previously, she was a teacher with Broward County Schools in Florida. In 2019, she was named assistant principal ofNorthshore Elementary, where she currently serves.
 
Ms. Harris holds a bachelor's degree in Elementary Education from Florida Atlantic University and a master's degree in Educational Leadership from Carson Newman University.

Tracy Marsh Appointed Principal of A.L. Lotts Elementary School

 
Tracy Marsh has been appointed Principal of A.L. Lotts Elementary School effective July 2022. Ms. Marsh joined Knox County Schools in 1998 and has worked as a teacher at Lonsdale Elementary, Beaumont Magnet Academy, and Blue Grass Elementary.
 
Previously, she worked at Arlington Community Schools in Shelby County, Tenn. She has also served as an instructional coach at Farragut Intermediate School and as a lead gifted coach for the district. In 2015, she was named assistant principal of Beaumont Magnet Academy, where she currently serves.
 
Ms. Marsh holds a bachelor's degree in Communications/Public Relations and a master's degree in Elementary Education, both from East Tennessee State University, as well as an Educational Specialist degree in Instructional Leadership from Tennessee Tech University.
