Principal's Update - High School

January Newsletter

Dear Parents and Students

Parents and Guardians,

We hope everyone has enjoyed the holiday break and the snow today! Classes for students will start on Tuesday, January 4th with courses being published in canvas either Monday evening or Tuesday morning.

We have had a great 1st semester with several students successes:

  • 15 students passed National Industry Certification in Microsoft Office
  • Almost half of the senior class graduating early in December and are embarking upon new adventures
  • 38% of virtual students completed the semester with all A's or B's
  • We are currently projecting a 90% graduation rate
  • We served numerous families with Thanksgiving and Holiday baskets
  • We opened our own chapter of National Honor Society (students should be receiving invitations soon)
  • We offered five Dual Enrollment courses offered through Pellissippi State Community College

We will begin registration for next year in late January with more course offerings and several asynchronous classes for juniors and seniors to accommodate student schedules. We will be offering more Advanced Placement and Dual Enrollment courses along with opportunities for students to graduate in December of their senior year.

We would like to provide information for future parents based upon your experiences with the Virtual High School. These will be posted on our website and will only include the information you provide below. Please use this link to provide a testimonial for other families.

School Fees

The link below will give you access to the schools fees account. School fees are used to purchase software to increase student engagement in the classroom. Our teachers use programs such as Jamboard, Kami, Kahoot!, Quizziz, etc. to measure student learning and provide feedback. The school fees help us to provide different platforms for engaging students in a virtual setting.

Senior Fees will pay for the diploma and diploma cover.

Driver's License

Students must have an SF1010 form to apply for a learner's permit or driver's license. The SF1010 form verifies the student is in good academic standing and is not truant. Please complete this form to request an SF1010 form, and we will respond back via email.

To be in good standing, students will need to be passing their courses and have fewer than 10 unexcused absences.

Bell Schedule

Not sure when your student should be in class? Students should be joining their teachers everyday except Thursday. On Thursday, students work independently (asynchronously) on their assignment.

1st period - 8:30 - 10:00

2nd period - 10:10 - 11:40

3rd period - 12:20 - 1:50

If students miss more than 20 minutes of class, they will be marked absent. To submit notes to excuse the absences, please email them to Each student is allowed 10 parent notes and unlimited doctor's notes.

We are beginning to schedule Progressive Truancy Plans for students and parents and we need to get those absences excused. To see which dates your students was marked absent, please look in Aspen under your students attendance tab.
