                                                                                                                                    March 11, 2022

Dear Parents and Students,

The 8th grade dance is scheduled for TUESDAY, MAY 24, 2022, from 6:30 – 9:00. This is an exciting event planned for our Hardin Valley Middle School eighth graders as we approach the end of this school year. The Venue at Lenoir City is hosting our end-of-the-year festivities that evening. In an effort to be consistent with our previous 8th grade dance and other Knox County middle schools, the dance is scheduled for the last week of school. We have chosen a weekday because it greatly reduces the cost, allows more students to attend (weekends are busy for everyone with all the travel programs so many students are involved in these days), and all of our formative and summative testing/assessments are complete. I also want to note that this is an 8th grade dance with semi-formal attire that is encouraged but not required. Students have their high school JR/SR prom to “go all out” on attire, limos, and other things that make their high school experiences special.

An enjoyable celebration requires an established set of expectations.  The following are the 2022 eighth grade dance criteria:

  1. 8th grade HVMS students only

  1. No parents in attendance at the event

  1. No limousines or chartered ride services

  1. If your child is riding home with another family, we will need a written note

  1. Semi-formal attire encouraged

Acceptable Attire:

  • Dress pants
  • Dress shirt/polo
  • Tie/bow tie (optional)
  • Sundress/Semi-formal dress (with straps)

      Unacceptable Attire:

  • Sagging pants
  • Denim
  • Shorts
  • T-shirts/Tank tops
  • Strapless/ Backless dresses (nothing exposed below shoulder blade)
  • Dresses with cut out areas
  • Bare midriffs/ Two-piece dress

***Failure to adhere to the dress expectations will result in the student not being allowed to enter the dance and parent/guardian will be called for immediate pick up from the event. ***

  1. Behavior Expectations--Effective Date: March 21st – May 24th

  • No more than 6 total class periods of RLC (equivalent to 1 full day)
  • No OSS
  • Administration has the right to refuse a student’s participation

***Failure to adhere to behavior expectations will result in the student being unable to attend the dance. The ticket is non-transferable. ***

Tickets will cost $30, and additional information about sale dates and logistics will be communicated at a later date. If you have any questions regarding the dance or appropriate attire, please feel free to contact us anytime. Students are encouraged to attend this activity since this is the last event for our eighth graders. We look forward to a tremendous, fun-filled occasion with everyone!

Sincerely,

Dr. Cory Smith
