• Welcome to the Powell High School College & Career Ready Office, located in the Library (third office on the right). We will strive to do our best in assisting students with financial aid, scholarship and college information as it becomes available.  Bulletins will highlight some of the most current scholarship offers and deadlines for important dates.  These will be handed out during your student's advisory period, or they may pick up a copy in the guidance office at their convenience.  We offer college literature, college fairs, informational seminars and advisory sessions to both students and parents.

    • Seniors make sure you check your most current Senior News for the latest updates for scholarships or check your Remind messages. There is always important information and scholarship updates.  All of this information is on the website, but if your student would like to view the Senior News electronically, please have them scan QR code throughout Powell High School or click the Senior News Link here Senior News If your student wishes to have a paper copy, they may pick one up in Mrs. Taylor's office.
    • If you are a current senior (or any student) for the 2017-2018 school year then you can go ahead and sign up for your remind 101.  This phone, or email, link will provide useful information through out the summer as well as the upcoming school year.  To receive messages via text, text @hk42hd to 81010.  You can opt out at anytime by replying "unsubscribe" @hk42hd.  If you would like to receive messages via email, send an email to hk42hd@mail.remind.com.  To unsubscribe, reply with "unsubscribe" in the subject line.
    • All seniors will apply for the TN Promise in school during College App Week. We will call by alphabetical order to complete the TN Promise. If your student doesn't attend when called, please have them complete this by the deadline of Nov. 1, 2017.     • FAFSA Night on Thursday, December 7th at 5:30 pm in the Library. Sarah Davis from Pellissipi State Community College will be here to help any family needing assistance completing the FAFSA.  We will serve you pizza for dinner. Attached is what you need to bring with you FAFSA Checklist  FASFA deadline for anyone using TN Promise is January 16th, 2018.
    • TN FAFSA FRENZY will be Thursday, October 26th from 9am-12pm in the Library. TnAchieves will be on site to help any student/parent needing help to still complete your FAFSA.     Rising Seniors "Class of 2019"

    • Juniors- Please make sure you are registered to take the ACT. We will be giving a free ACT test during school on March 20th, 2018. If you need ACT study guides or more ACT future test dates, please see Mrs. Taylor.
    • Make sure you are checking out colleges you may be interested in and visiting these schools. It will be here before you know it!
    • If you need a letter of recommendation we have cover sheets available in Mrs. Taylor's office.  Some teachers, or administration, require these before writing a letter.  Please allow up to two weeks for completion and mailing once you have submitted the request. Also, if you are needing an official copy of your transcript for college applications or scholarships, please fill out the transcript request form in Guidance with Mrs. Speegle or Mrs. Taylor's office and allow 24 hours.
    • Remember if you are planning on playing sports at the varsity level in college you must register with the NCAA or NAIA, depending on which college you attend.  A FINAL transcript has to be sent to them upon graduation to make any eligibility, or scholarship awarded, complete.  You may register at http://www.eligibilitycenter.org for NCAA and http://www.playnaia.org for NAIA.
    • Junior Night will be held on May 7, 2018 at 6:00pm in the Auditorium. You will receive information pertaining to your upcoming senior year and receive your summer senior packet. Attached is a copy of last years senior packet. Senior Summer Packet 


    There is a $5.00 charge for transcripts, cash or check made out to Powell High School. Students that graduated this year (2018) will not be charged for transcripts until August. Student must be present to request transcripts and if the student is 18 or older they must show a photo ID. Relatives are not allowed to pick up transcripts for students. Please see the Guidance Office to fill out transcript request form.

    Grote Chemistry Scholarship from University of Chattanooga- Eligibility is for current seniors with a completed course of chemistry with an A or B, 3.5 GPA, ACT composite of 26 or above (1170 SAT), declare chemistry as your major.     TSAC’s prestigious Ned McWherter Scholars Program- Eligibility high school seniors who meet the academic requirements for TSAC’s prestigious Ned McWherter Scholars Program.     Arconic Foundation Sons & Daughters Scholarship- Eligibility is for current seniors. Requirements must be a dependent child or grandchild of an active permanent full-time or permanent part-time employee of Arconic Inc. Award is $1,000 annually.     Suntrust off to College Scholarship Sweepstakes- Enter to win a $500 scholarship. Starting Sept.12, 2017, students can enter online once during each entry period. Winners will be randomly chosen every two week beginning Oct. 30, 2017 until May 14, 2018. www.suntrust.com/offtocollege

    Furman University- Eligibility is for current juniors Requirements are interest in liberal arts or sciences, a weighted GPA of 3.5 or higher, at least a 1300 on SAT, a 1360 on the SAT-R, a 1360 on the PSAT, or a 29 on the ACT. You must have involvement in extracurricular activities and community service, and leadership potential. Award is at least 20,000 per year in scholarships upon acceptance to Furman.     Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc- Eligibility is for African- American Female, Minimum GPA: 3.0, 500 Word Essay, and Knoxville Area Resident. Requirements are a recent photograph, an official high school transcript, two letters of recommendation (one being from an administrator or faculty member, the other may be from a minister, employer or someone who knows you other than a family member.     Y-12 Federal Credit Union Bill T. Hicks- Eligibility is being a member of Y-12 FCU, be accepted to an accredited 2 or 4 year college or university, attending summer or fall 2018, be a member of the 2018 graduating class, with a GPA of at least 2.5. Requirements are submit a Y-12 FCU application with either a 250 word essay or two minute long video, to be postmarked or delivered no later than midnight, March 1, 2018. Application must include a certified transcript from your current high school, including GPA. May include up to three letters of references. Award is a one time 1,000 scholarship.     Powell High Alumni Scholarship Association- Eligibility is for graduating seniors and accepted to an accredited college or university and must not have received a scholarship for more than 90% tuition in other scholarship monies, excluding the Hope Lottery Scholarship. Requirements are must include the small sealed letter-sized envelope containing Page 1 of application and photo, Page 2&3 of application, with Student ID in top right hand corner, high school transcript with social security number but no names, essay written by candidate stating something about yourself and your plans for your future, and two letters of recommendation written by non-family members. Award varies.  Deadline is February 22, 2018. (must pick up in Mrs. Taylor’s office)

    Regions Bank Scholarship- Eligibility is for graduating seniors. Requirements are must submit a 500 word or less essay on black history month on a) How an African American has been inspiration in your life, and b) Discuss the contributions of the African-American individual who has served to inspire and motivate you.     National Youth Science Camp-  This will be for ALL seniors. This is an honors program for two high school seniors that are high achieving in the state. This residential summer experience is held in West Virginia. Apply at http://apply.nysc.org

    UTK College of Veterinary Medicine Summer Experience Program-To apply a student must : be a legal resident of the STate of Tennessee and enrolled in a Tennessee high school or home schooled, be a current high school junior or senior at the time of the application submission, be at least 16 years of age by June 4, 2018, have a minimum 3.0 cumulative grade point average, be available for full time employment (40 hours/ week) between June 4 - July 13, 2018, have not previously  participated in the Veterinary Summer Experience Program.     SKMES Apprenticeship Programs is if you have ever wanted to learn a trade – electrical, plumbing or sheet metal – this is the way to do it. All SKMES team members hired as apprentices are automatically enrolled in the school for their specific trade (tuition is paid by the company). Classes are held September through April, following the Knox County School schedule. You will meet 5 to 6 times a month in the evenings, so you can still work with us full-time – and get paid!

A school counselor is a counselor and an educator who works in elementary, middle, and/or high schools to provide academic, career, college readiness, and personal/social competencies to all K-12 students through a school counseling program.
