• WHES Channel 4 Morning News
    West Hills' fifth grade students help Mr. McKinley  broadcast live from our news studio every morning.  The news program consists of important announcements, birthday book club news, and cafeteria menus.  It encourages student participation and school spirit.  




    Safety Patrol
    Safety Patrol is a program for fifth grade students that motivates them to keep their grades up as well as their behavior.  Safety Patrols help in monitoring hallways and in arrival and dismissal procedures.  




    Student Council
    The student council program is a student run program where elected members from 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade classes meet and organize school activities.  




    Spelling Bee
    Third, Fourth, and Fifth grade representatives are chosen from classroom held spelling bees to compete in a school wide spelling bee.  The winner of West Hills spelling bee moves on to the county spelling bee.  




    Walk to School

    Each year West Hills participates in Walk to School Day.  Walk to School Day encourages children, parents, teachers and community leaders to walk to school to celebrate the many benefits of walking.





    Coupon Books
    Every year Knox County Schools participate in selling Coupon Books to support each school.  The coupon books cost $10 and $8 from each sale goes to the schools. The coupon books are filled with wonderful discounts to numerous places in Knox County.  Please  support West Hills by purchasing your coupon book from one of our students.

    21st Century Afterschool Program 
    The 21st Century Afterschool Program is a grant funded program for our 3rd-5th grade students.  The students are provided with homework assistance and enrichment opportunities.  Technology is integrated into many of the projects that are completed by our students.  The students stay afterschool Monday-Friday from 2:45-5:45pm.  The Boys and Girls Club of Knoxville works with the students on Wednesday afternoons to provide a more social aspect to the program. Note: This is an enrichment program and is not a substitute for daycare.
    Information will be sent home with your student. 

    Music /PE Programs         
    We have several Music and PE programs by grade level throughout the year.  Watch for dates to come home in your child's folder.  The dates will also be listed in The Wolf Newsletter and be posted on the website.
