• What does PLE/STC mean?

    PLE stands for "Personalized Learning Environment." In a PLE, the ultimate goal is for each and every student to consistently receive personalized and differentiated instruction.  Hallmarks of a PLE include but are not limited to student voice and choice in how students access academic content, how students engage with content, and how students demonstrate mastery of content. Teachers personalize through instructional methods, assessment methods and criteria, lesson design and pacing, and the learning environment.
     
    STC stands for "School Technology Challenge." School Technology Challenge sites are 1:1 environments that strive to use technology in a variety of ways to transform student engagement through collaboration, constructive learning, student-directed goals, active participation, and authentic tasks.

  • What does it mean to be 1:1?

    1:1 means that every teacher and student has a device. In the case of Bearden High School, all teachers and students have MacBook Pros.

  • How does a student get a device?

    If the student is enrolled at Bearden High School at the beginning of the school year, he or she will pick up his or her device during the designated "Dawg Days". Prior to Dawg Days, the student and parent/legal guardian of the student will view the deployment orientation presentation on line or attend an in-person informational session, submit the appropriate paperwork, and receive the device to borrow for the school year.
     
    If the student enrolls at Bearden High School during the school year, the student and the parent will work with the Tecnology, Pedagogy, and Content Knowledge (TPaCK) Coach and School Technician to arrange a time to complete the device training and paperwork sumbission process.  The school counseling office will provide instructions to the student during the time of his or her enrollment.

    The term "device" refers to the MacBook Pro, charger, charger extension, and laptop cover.

    The devices are returned at the end of the school year in Mid-May.

  • Why do the devices have to be returned at the end of each year?

    The devices have to be returned at the end of each year to be reimaged.  Basically, this means that all of the software is updated and reset.
