The Knox County Board of Education serves as the community’s voice in public education, providing oversight into and direction for Knox County Schools. The Board includes nine members, elected by district to serve four-year terms representing the residents of the City of Knoxville, Knox County, and the Town of Farragut. Oversight and direction of the district is managed through the passage of policies, the approval of an annual operating budget, and the appointment and supervision of the Superintendent of Schools.
Each September, the Board selects a Chair and Vice Chair from among its members, who each serve one-year terms.
The Board also includes a student representative, who serves a one-year term as a non-voting member. The Student Board Representative must be a rising senior in good standing who has attended a KCS high school for at least one year.
