• Graduation Update #3 (6/08/2020)

    Senior Parents and students,

Approximately 87% of the graduation tickets were picked up on Thursday and Friday of last week. We will have one more short pick up time on Monday, from 12:00 PM – 3:00 PM. This will be the last possible time for pick up as we will be on the field making graduation preparations on Tuesday and will have no one in the office. A final reminder, that students will report to the front steps of the main building by 5:00 PM to check-in for graduation. Gates will open for guests at 6:00 PM. Guests will only be admitted through the gates with a ticket, so please make your final decisions as to who will get to attend prior to your arrival.

Once entering the stadium, thin stadium cushions will have been placed on the bleachers, indicating available seating according to distancing guidelines. Please do not move them at any point. The chairs on the track (both sides) are already spaced six feet apart and arranged in clusters of four. No one will be allowed on the field until the students have been commenced and march out after graduation. While we want everyone to capture photos and enjoy their moment, it is important to follow social distancing guidelines and leave the campus as soon as possible.

In terms of weather, the current forecast for graduation is a 30% chance of pop-up thunderstorms in the PM. In case of inclement weather, approximately 2 ½ hours prior to graduation, if the weather looks bad, the district team, superintendent and I will make a decision about graduation (delay, postpone or proceed).  If there is any decision other than proceed with the ceremony as scheduled, the I will make a call to families and the district will make a call and post it on the website.  This call will be made 2 hours prior to the ceremony.

If we get into the ceremony and it starts to lightly rain, we will proceed with the ceremony.  If the rain becomes heavy or if there is lightening in the area, the students will be dismissed back into their staging areas in main building A and the families will be sent to the gymnasium.  In the event of lightening, we will follow the same protocol as we do during sporting events (30 minutes from the last strike). Once we are ready to proceed, we will bring the seniors back onto the field to be seated and then will bring in families. Families and graduates can have umbrellas or ponchos. If we have to post-pone for another date, we are likely to reschedule 6/10, 6/17 or 6/20, depending on any cancellations in the graduations before us. It is my intention to push through the weather unless it is just too unsafe.

Finally, a reminder that your video for the Virtual Post-Secondary Roll Call (formally, College Roll Call) must be completed prior to graduation. Remember, we are asking that you wear your graduation cap and gown when making your video (wont accept without it). The link is included or can be found on our web-site.

That is all for now. Unless you hear from me about inclement weather, I will see everyone at graduation on Tuesday.

Grace and peace be with you all!
