• Covid-19 Update #4 (4/24/2020)

    Parents and Students,

This is Tim Berry with another important South-Doyle High update!

As you are aware, the State Board of Education recently passed policies and regulations regarding grades. The district developed a grading plan for the spring semester, and you should have received that information from Superintendent Thomas and me last week.

Now that have completed Phase 1, we are ready to move into Phase 2. For our students in grades 9-12, you will be able to access your child’s third-quarter grades in Aspen Family Portal beginning today, April 24th. Parents and students should review the course grades and by Wednesday, April 29th, our students should log in to ASPEN to take the Quiz, which will be an easy way to choose their option:

Option A- Accept the current third-quarter grade as the student’s final grade for the course.

Option B-  Agree to complete review work or rework to try and improve the grade. No student will receive a grade lower than the grade that is reflected today. (This grade reflects all work that was assigned by March 12, the last day we were in school. Please know that some of the work assigned by that date was graded after spring break and has just recently been recorded.) Additional work assigned by the teacher and completed by the student to improve the grade can be submitted digitally through Aspen, Canvas, or email to the teacher between Friday, May 1, and Monday, May 18. We cannot accept any paper copies of any work. The deadline to make your option selection for each course is Wednesday, April 29th. If a student has not made selections by that time, it will default to Option A and their grade will be finalized.

All final spring 2020 grades will be posted by May 21, 2020.

On our website, Mr. Davidson (matthew.davidson@knoxschools.org) has provided resources to assist you with accessing Family Portal and a quick video for how to make your option selection in ASPEN. We understand that many questions remain, but for now, let’s focus on reviewing Q3 grades and making our option decisions for each course before the April 29th deadline.

Thanks and everyone have a blessed weekend!
