Mooreland Heights faculty wins awards at Value Plus workshopsMooreland Heights Elementary School received several honors while attending the Value Plus Summer Intensive workshop in Nashville this summer. Faculty and staff were there with six other schools from across the state that are participating in the Value Plus (VP) Program funded by the Tennessee Arts Commission. Throughout the week, the staff attended workshops and art experiences designed to enhance their teaching of arts integration within their schools. The week concluded with an awards ceremony where Mooreland Heights was honored along with several individual teachers. The awards were as follows: Distinguished Teacher of the Year: Mrs. Heidi Swaney, first grade instructor. The award recognizes one teacher from each VP school who has demonstrated exceptional growth and whole-hearted participation in teaching, planning, and collaborating on arts integration instruction The Molly L. Pratt Spirit Award: Britiney Fife, kindergarten teacher. The award recognizes one exemplary teacher from each VP school who has gone above and beyond the classroom to make arts integration successful at their respective school. The Master Teacher Award Holly Briggs, art teacher The award honors a single teacher out of ALL six the VP schools who has demonstrated extraordinary teaching skills, a propensity for thinking outside the box, a positive attitude, cooperation with fellow faculty, and whose presence and contributions to the field of arts-integrated teaching have had tremendous impact on their students and school. The School of Excellence Award recognizes the Value Plus School that has demonstrated the most growth over the course of the school year to achieve a standard of excellence, and was presented to Mooreland Heights Elementary. Each individual award recipient received a framed certificate and an original painting by artist Hannah Maxwell. Mooreland Heights received a framed certificate and a check for $10,000 of additional arts funding for the 08-09 school year.
